Aaron Judge went on to hit 60 home runs, one shy of Roger Maris’ American League record, in the New York Yankees’ 2-0 victory over the Boston Red Sox on Sunday in a game cut to six innings because of the rain.

Judge went 1-for-2 with a double and was in the on-deck circle when the game was stopped.

The umpires decreed the end of the match after a delay of 98 minutes.

New York can clinch the American League East title with a win over the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday night.

Many supporters stayed and left their seats to take cover from the rain under the awning and in the lobby.

Some of the 46,707 fans who packed the stadium booed when the umpires called for the tarp to be put down at 91:15 p.m., but torrential rain began to fall soon after.

Lightning and thunder accompanied the strong storm that could last past 11 p.m. and possibly until midnight, according to the forecast.

Rookie Brayan Bello (2-7) carried the setback despite giving up just two runs, one earned, and six hits in six innings of work.

The win went to Néstor Cortes (11-4) by conceding just one hit with five strikeouts in five innings.

For the Yankees, Venezuelans Oswald Peraza 2-0; Oswaldo Cabrera 3-1 with a run scored; Marwin Gonzalez 3-0; Gleyber Torres 2-0.

For the Red Sox, Puerto Rican Enrique Hernández 3-0
