XXII Felaban Congress brings together multiple banks

This Monday started the XXII Latin American Congress of Technology and Innovation (CLAB),under the slogan “Innovation, Technology and Security: Accelerated transformation of payment methods and financial services” in which banking trends in technology are exposed.

In this congress participate commercial bank commissionersthe technology sector, multinational companies, representatives of international organizations, as well as academics from financial and economic areas.

The welcome words were given by the president of the ABA, Rosanna Ruiz, who expressed that “for us it is crucial that all this high-level space be used to the maximum, having a lasting impact in all the countries of our region that They honor us with their presence.”

Ruiz added that For the first time, Felaban and the union he leads will prepare an official report of the congress that will serve to draw up a regional roadmap in terms of innovation and digital transformation.

Conferences and panels will be held at the event, including the global and regional perspective on the digital economy; technological transformation and added value for users, among other issues of banking and technological interest.

The congress was organized by the Latin American Federation of Banks (Felaban) and the Association of Multiple Banks of the Dominican Republic (ABA), and has the participation of 150 representatives from 23 Latin American countries.

Giorgio TretteneroSecretary General of the Latin American Federation of Banks (Felaban), stated that “Technological tools are a complement to the intuition of the credit agent of the banksince we can locate the client, contact him and better understand what he needs in the face of the complex situation that many homes and companies face”.

“The great objective is to reach more users, at lower costs, being more efficient, more inclusive and more sustainable.” Trettenero added.

During the activity offered at the Jaragua Hotel in the National District, The governor of the Central Bank, Héctor Valdez Albizu, announced that the first completely digital multiple bank is already operating in the country and local capital, approved by the Monetary Board, which it considered a milestone in the history of the Dominican financial system.

He also highlighted that in the country there are 5.9 million users of digital banking services and he valued the trend as positiveincreasing, of the Dominican banking towards the digitization of its services.

Valdez Albizu mentioned that the Central Bank has observed with concern the increase in cybercrimes against financial infrastructures in other countries, therefore, he stressed that actions were taken to strengthen the functions in terms of cybernetic security and information of all regulated entities.

The event will last until Tuesday the 29th at the Jaragua and Sheraton hotels in Santo Domingo. Its agenda includes lectures by Brett King, author of several bestsellers, and José Maria Roldán, former president of the Spanish Banking Association.

Senior executives from Amazon, Google, VISA, CardNet, and DEJAMOBILE, among other well-known multinational companies, also participate, the ABA reported.
