Xiaomi was the first to cancel its conference scheduled for tomorrow and then iQOO also postponed its presentation scheduled for December 2.
The brands do not give explanations, but the origin of the postponements must be the death of the former Chinese leader Jiang Zemin that put China in a period of mourning.
The death of the former Chinese leader causes the postponement of the Xiaomi and iQOO conferences
Without any explanation, Xiaomi and iQOO announced that their conferences scheduled for December 1 and 2, respectively, have been postponed. Both brands made the announcement on the Chinese social network Weibo with very similar texts that did not give reasons for the postponement.
Xiaomi, in its post, only says that “the launch of the new 13 series has been postponed” and that it will inform a new date for the conference later. Thank you also for “understanding and support”.
For its part, iQOO also reports that the “launches of the new products of the iQOO 11 and iQOO Neo 7 SE series” have been postponed. He also promises to let you know about a new release date and like Xiaomi thanks you for your support and understanding.
And although both brands have not given explanations for this postponement, this could be due to the death of former Chinese leader Jiang Zemin. The news of his death was reported by the official Chinese news agency Xinhua, as well as by Reuters.
Jiang Zemin assumed the leadership of China right after the Tiananmen Square protests in 1989 until the early 2000s. He was also the president who accompanied China’s entire rise to global economic power.
The former head of state had been fighting, for some time, against diagnosed leukemia and that will be responsible for his death at the age of 96.
It was then this loss that led both Chinese brands to postpone the events they had planned for the next two days.
