Beijing: Xi Jinping was elected President of China for the third term, 3 thousand members of the Chinese Parliament and NPC elected Xi Jinping.

Foreign media say that Xi Jinping of the Communist Party has been elected president for the next 5 years. Xi Jinping has also been elected as the Chairman of the Central Military Commission.

The news agency reported that Xi Jinping has emerged as the country’s most powerful leader since Mao Zedong, with 3,000 members of China’s parliament and NPC electing him.

Voting continued for about an hour and electronic counting was completed in about 15 minutes.

Xi Jinping-approved officials are expected to be appointed to top cabinet posts in the next two days, including prime minister-in-waiting Li Qiang.

Xi Jinping’s power was already extended last October, when he was reappointed as general secretary of the ruling Communist Party’s Central Committee for another five years.
