Woman sentenced to life in prison for abandonment and death of her baby

A woman has been sentenced to life in prison in the US for abandoning her baby and dying after leaving it alone in a house while on holiday.

Kristel Candelario, 32, left her daughter completely alone in a home in Cleveland, Ohio, for 10 days. During this time, he took a trip to Puerto Rico and Michigan in June 2023.

When she returned home, she found her baby was unconscious and called 911 to report the emergency. First responders arrived at the home and found the girl dead and wrapped in dirty blankets.

This is how it was determined that Jailyn died of starvation and dehydration. Authorities charged this Ecuadorian with aggravated homicide, two counts of murder, felonious assault and endangering a child.

The court sentenced her to life imprisonment.

Judge Brendan J. Sheehan sentenced this woman to life in prison, accusing her of abandoning and killing her baby.

Furthermore, when reading out his verdict, he assured that this was not mere negligence on the part of the mother; because she could have found a way to take care of her baby and not bring about this “imaginable” and “horrible” death.

“Just as you did not release Jailyn from her confinement until her death, you should also spend the rest of your life in a cell without freedom.” The only difference will be that in prison you will be fed and given the fluids that They denied him,” Sheehan said.

Kristel Candelario, who had suffered from depression and mental health issues, expressed regret and said she was “hurt” by what happened.

“The death of my baby hurts me so much… I’m not trying to justify my actions, but no one knows what I suffered and what I went through,” she said.
