Will Matt Ranshaw be able to do wonders as Marnus Labuschagne while playing as a concussion substitute?

David Warner has been ruled out for the test match to be played in Delhi between India and Australia (IND vs AUS). He will not be able to return to the field due to the injury caused by Mohammad Siraj during batting. In his place, Matt Renshaw is now part of the Australian team’s game-11 as a concussion substitute.

Previously there was no such option as concussion substitute in cricket but now if a player involved in game-11 is injured in such a way that he is unable to play then teams can use concussion substitute instead . Australia were the first team to use this option in Test cricket history.

At Ashes 2019, Steve Smith was seriously injured by a Jofra Archer keeper. This was only the second Test of the Ashes. In the first innings of this Test, Smith was dismissed after scoring 92 runs. But after that he did not return to the field. In such a situation, Marnus Labushen was replaced by Concussion Substitute. Labushen replaced Smith in Australia’s second innings and played an important 59-run innings to tie the match.

By the way, Labushen made his test debut in October 2018. But he couldn’t collect any special colors. But after landing as a concussion substitute at Ashes, Labushen’s fortunes changed so much that he played back-to-back big innings and now the situation is that he is the number 1 batsman in the Test rankings.

Match Ranshaw made his Test debut in November 2016. He was also included in the squad for Team Australia on the latest tour of India. He too had performed better then. However, Matt Ranshaw has been out of the Australian team for a long time after this. He has returned to play-11 for the Test team in the South African series before the tour of India. He was also involved in the test match held in Nagpur, but here he could only score 2 runs in both innings. In such a situation, he was kept out of the Delhi Test.

Ranshaw may have flopped at Nagpur Test and was knocked out of Delhi Test opening game 11, but he can show a good game against spin. He also has a good experience from the last India tour. In such a situation, this player can definitely follow in Labushen’s footsteps by landing as a concussion substitute.
