National Sports Day is celebrated in India on August 29th every year. On this day the great ice hockey player Major Dhyanchand was born in Prayagraj in 1905 and on the occasion of his birthday the National Sports Day is celebrated in the country. Major Dhyanchand won gold medals at the Olympic Games for India in 1928, 1932 and 1936. Major Dhyanchand scored more than 500 goals in his ice hockey career.
