According to Saudi media, a member of the Transport Committee at the Mecca Chamber of Commerce, Maher Al-Rawizen, said that the highway connecting Mecca and Taif is the first regular highway in Saudi Arabia.

Al-Rawizen said that this highway was constructed in 1925 according to 1344 AH. At that time, all the roads in the country were unpaved which made it very difficult to travel by vehicles.

Roads at that time were reserved for camels and horses, both of which were used for travel.

Al-Rawizen said that the main highways of Saudi Arabia include Makkah Mukarramah, Madinah Munawara Road, Riaz Taif Road, Jeddah Makkah Road, Riaz Dammam Road, Riaz Qasim Road, Al-Laith Jazan Road. Are connected to each other.
