Cryptocurrencies are very popular in Australia. Nearly 18% of Australians own crypto like bitcoin (BTC) or ethereum (ETH), according to a new research from Australia’s Finder, published October 18.
Yet crypto adoption is even higher in two countries. The cryptocurrency adoption index from Finder surveys 41,645 individuals each month using a survey.
The latest results show that a whopping 17.8% of Australians own crypto. After Australia, Indonesia follows with 16.7% and Hong Kong with 15.8%. Above Australia is Malaysia with 18% and at the very top Nigeria with 24.2%.
The global average of crypto investors is 11.4% according to Finder. At 10.4%, the United States is just below that average. However, the Netherlands is not on the list at all. It is unclear whether no Dutch people were questioned at all or whether the percentage is even below the lowest. That is Japan with 4.6%.
Bitcoin remains by far the most popular crypto, with a whopping 65.2% of Australian crypto investors owning BTC. This percentage is highest in Japan, at 76.7% of crypto investors in the country. Then South Africa follows with 72.6%.
Ethereum is most popular in Singapore at 52.4%. This is followed by Australia, where 42.1% of crypto investors own ether. The most popular crypto in Australia, relative to other countries, is cardano (ADA). No less than 26.4% of Australian crypto owners have ADA. Ireland follows with 25.4%. Binance Coin (BNB) is most popular among Indonesian investors and dogecoin (DOGE) in the US.
Finally, Finder reports that 40.4% of crypto investors in Australia are female and thus 59.6% are male. That’s roughly around the global average. At the extreme end is Japan, where only 22.1% of crypto investors are female. On the other side is Mexico where 53.7% is female.
