WhatsApp Finally Brings Dedicated Messaging App to Apple Watch

WhatsApp has finally rolled out a dedicated application for the Apple Watch, significantly expanding messaging capabilities directly from users’ wrists. This development marks a substantial upgrade from the previous limited interactions, which often frustrated users relying solely on basic notifications.

The new app allows users to read complete messages, browse recent chat lists, and initiate new conversations directly from their smartwatch. Users can also send replies using text, emojis, or voice dictation. Quick reactions to specific messages and voice message composition are also supported.

The application functions as a companion to the iPhone, requiring the phone to be nearby and connected for full functionality. It connects automatically to the iPhone’s WhatsApp, eliminating the need for complex QR code scans or intricate configurations.

This release follows WhatsApp’s successful implementation on Wear OS, the operating system for Android smartwatches. While the long-term objective is an entirely independent app that does not require a tethered phone, this initial version represents a major step forward for Apple Watch users.

Currently, the app is available to beta testers through TestFlight, utilizing the latest version of WhatsApp for iOS. Its public launch on the App Store is anticipated in the coming weeks. The move mirrors WhatsApp’s recent expansion to the iPad, further integrating the messaging service across Apple devices.
