IPL 2022 has been very volatile for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). This team started the season losing two games and then created panic in the league by winning 5 straight games one after another. Team coach Tom Moody’s comment came in regards to this incredible journey of the Sunrisers and their failure to make the playoffs. He has said that due to injuries to key players, SRH was unable to maintain consistency in performance.
On the Sunrisers Hyderabad YouTube channel, Moody said, “Washington Sundar and Natarajan’s injuries in the middle of the tournament took us out of the tournament.” After these injuries, we couldn’t put on that winning streak. Notably, T Natarajan missed 3 games due to injury midway through this season. He was the main bowler for the Sunrisers. At the time he was out due to injury, he was in the top 5 bowlers with the highest wicket taker this season. Similarly, Washington Sundar was also unable to play 5 games this season due to injury.
Moody says: ‘We need to work on a lot of things. And we know this. We would have been a bit higher up the points table, but these few incidents in the middle of the tournament pushed us out a lot.
Moody also cited losses in some close games during this period as the reason for SRH’s exit from the playoff race. He said: ‘The match against Gujarat Titans we lost in the last overs, the loss in that match was unexpected. Gujarat Titans scored the required runs in the last one, which at the time we felt would be impossible. However, this is the nature of T20 cricket.
