The West Indies and Afghanistan teams have already qualified for the Super-8 in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. In their recent match against Afghanistan, the West Indies team emerged victorious, with a massive 104-run win. Nicholas Pooran and Johnson Charles played exceptional innings to contribute to the team’s success.

West Indies’ batsmen started off strong, with Johnson Charles and Nicholas Pooran amassing 92 runs in the powerplay. This feat is remarkable, as it breaks the record for the highest score in the powerplay in T20 World Cup history. Prior to this, the Netherlands team held the record with a score of 91 runs in the powerplay against Ireland in 2014.

In the match against Afghanistan, Nicholas Pooran missed a century by just two runs, scoring 98 runs in 53 balls. Shai Hope and Rovman Powell also chipped in with useful contributions. However, Afghanistan’s batting faltered, with no other player apart from Ibrahim Zadran managing to score more than 20 runs. The team was eventually bowled out for 114 runs, with Aqeel Hussain, Gudakesh Moti, and Obed McCoy sharing the wickets.

This remarkable victory further solidifies West Indies’ position in the tournament, as they look to continue their dominance in the Super-8.
