Webb doesn’t allow a hit until the sixth inning; Giants beat Rockies

Logan Webb didn’t allow a hit until there was one out in the sixth inning and immediately left the game as the San Francisco Giants ended up winning 6-1 over the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday.

Giants manager Gabe Kapler retired Webb just after receiving the hit, a single off ninth-hit Sean Bouchard. His job lasted just 66 pitches.

Alex Young, Cole Waites and Scott Alexander limited the Rockies to two hits before Elehuris Montero homered in the ninth off Thomas Szapucki.

This did not prevent the Giants from spinning their third victory.

Kapler said the team was keeping an eye on the workload of Webb, who had pitched a career-high 182 innings before his 31st start. Webb (14-9) showed no signs of fatigue and retired his first 11 opponents.

Venezuelan Germán Márquez (8-12) allowed four runs – three earned – and nine hits in five innings, during which he prescribed six strikeouts. The game was delayed for over an hour by rain.

For the Giants, Venezuelans Thairo Estrada 2-0, Wilmer Flores 4-3 with a run scored. Mexican Luis González 4-1 with an RBI.

For the Rockies, the Dominican Elehuris Montero 2-1 with a run scored and produced. The Venezuelan Elías Díaz 4-1. 1-1 with a run scored.
