“We want the TabarcaVela to be a benchmark regatta in the Mediterranean”

The Real Alicante Regatta Club presented this Thursday, in the Punta Piedra space located in the Tirón de Pichón facilities, the 27th edition of the TabarcaVela that will be held in the waters of the bay of Alicante from July 13 to 16. The president of RCR Alicante, Miguel López, was accompanied by the director of the 27th TabarcaVela Provincial Council of Alicante, Nuria Sánchez Nomdedeu, and explained that “for the first time this international sporting event can be experienced live throughout the city of Alicante” .

One of the most significant changes of this year’s TabarcaVela is the change in direction and that is that it has the sailor Nuria Sánchez. “We have done important work throughout the year, specifically since the end of the 2022 edition, so that the TabarcaVela is a reference and quality regatta in the Mediterranean and the national calendar. That is our objective and our hope”. To do this, the organizers have planned a broad social and sports agenda, among which a Village, a gala at the Castillo de Santa Bárbara and the streaming of the event stand out. In addition, the celebration of the regatta has been delayed a week to be fixed in the calendar between the Queen’s Trophy in Valencia and as a prelude to the Copa del Rey MAPFRE in Palma de Mallorca.

López highlighted that “from the Alicante Regatta Club we have been betting for a couple of years on the recovery of large sporting events with a marked social component and aimed at the entire city. We believe that it is one of the actions that as a club differentiates us from the sports marinas, with no other interest than promoting sports and social activity in Alicante. With this objective we have promoted the TabarcaVela, the flagship regatta of the club, with almost 30 years of history, and position it as one of the leading cruising regattas in our country”. To date, the event has almost 70 registered boats from Andalusia, the Balearic Islands, the Canary Islands, Catalonia, the Valencian Community, Galicia and the Region of Murcia. There is also international participation with ships flying the flag of Finland, Great Britain and the Netherlands. As explained by Nuria Sánchez, “Alicante will be able to enjoy a great nautical sports spectacle since it is the edition with the most registrations in the history of this regatta.”

In the City & Beach Women, the female crews will compete in the J22 of RCR Alicante, in which there will be two crews from the club, the City & Beach of Berta Campos and the Dorsia Covirán by Núria Sánchez Nomdedeu. The rest of the teams come from the Canary Islands, the Valencian Community, Galicia, Madrid and the Basque Country. As for the Dragon class, the four units from the hand of Vicente García stand out, with the new creation of this fleet of majestic boats in our club.

Regarding the ORC classes, in the 0-1 division, the participation of two winning boats of the Copa del Rey Mapfre stands out, DK46 Hydra-HM Hospitales (the most successful ship in the last decade) and the Swan Pez de Abril. In group 2 there are two other brand new champions of the recently celebrated Queen’s Trophy, such as the Maverta Defcom Seguridad and Fandango 300, the latter won the Offshore regatta. In ORC 3 there is the RCRA boat Tanit IV Medilevel of María José Vila and in ORC 4, Enewtec, a boat that has just been proclaimed absolute champion in Valencia after winning all the tests.
