According to local authorities, 458 bodies were found in Boutcha, northwest of the Ukrainian capital kyiv, lists the municipality on its page Facebook. Among the victims, 419 were killed, for the others, “the causes of death of others arise”said the town hall during a press conference held on Monday August 8, the theme of which was announced as “relevant and painful”.
Among the bodies identified, Boutcha counts “366 males, 86 females, five unrecognizable, a bag of body parts that are unrecognizable as bodies”as well as “12 children” under 21 years old. Since Ukraine regained control of the Kyiv region on April 2, about a month after Russian troops began the invasion, residents of Boutcha search for and collect the bodies of the dead themselves.
A lack of means for identification
“There are still many unburied”Ukrainian MP Mykhailyna Skoryk-Shkarivska noted on her social networks Monday. “We will try to identify everyone”she assures, asking for help and “the experience of other countries”.
The question of a possible war crime during the march in Boutcha is still pending, while an investigation by the International Criminal Court has been opened. The testimonials of victims of rape committed by the Russian occupier have also multiplied.
