Walmart boosts its global billings record with 32.8% growth in the fiscal year

In 2023, Walmart marked a historic milestone and recorded record sales of $1.5 million 648,125 million dollars (equivalent to 600,000 million euros), which corresponds to growth of 6% in the financial year. A significant portion of this growth comes from his Online channelwhere the mark has achieved sales of over 100,000 million dollars, with an impressive 23% increase in the fourth quarter alone. This data strengthens Walmart’s position and is getting closer and closer to its main competitor, Amazon.

Doug McMillon, president and CEO of Walmart, expressed satisfaction in the statement and highlighted the solid performance for the quarter and the year. He mentioned the milestone of crossing the $100 billion mark in e-commerce as well as increasing market share emphasized the company’s commitment to offering lower prices to its customers and partners.

Aside from that, Walmart has managed to profitably improve its marginsand achieved a profit of 15,511 million dollars (equivalent to 13,499 million euros), an increase of 32.8%. Although profits fell 12.4% to $5,494 million in the final quarter of the year, operating income rose 30%.

As far as sales are concerned, Walmart reported total U.S. sales of $441.8 billion for the fiscal year, with 17% growth in the online channel, driven primarily by pickup and delivery services. Walmart Connect advertising sales also saw strong growth of 22%.

in The Field Internationally, Walmart reported net sales growth of 13.0%, led by Flipkart, Walmex and China, thanks to strong performance at festive events. The e-commerce business recorded a 44% increase, driven by marketplace and omnichannel offerings. On the other hand, digital advertising increased by 76%, mainly driven by Flipkart and Walmex.

For the next quarter and 2025, Walmart remains cautiously optimistic, forecasting a 4% to 5% increase in consolidated net sales for the third quarter and expected annual growth of between 3% and 4%.
