The new vivo Y500 Pro smartphone emphasizes exceptional durability and an upgraded camera system, while surprisingly downgrading its internal storage technology.
The device boasts IP68 and IP69 ratings, making it fully dust-resistant and capable of immersion in fresh water up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes. Its IP69 certification further provides higher impact resistance and protection against high-pressure water at temperatures up to 80 degrees Celsius. vivo states these are the best durability components for a smartphone in its class.
Photography features include a 200-megapixel main camera with a 1/1.56-inch image sensor. A 32-megapixel camera with an f/2.5 aperture handles selfies.
Despite these upgrades, the Y500 Pro features a notable downgrade in internal storage. It uses UFS 2.2 technology, which offers read speeds of up to 850 MB/s and write speeds of 250 MB/s. This is significantly slower than the UFS 3.1 found in its predecessor, which provided speeds of 2,100 MB/s for reading and 1,200 MB/s for writing.
Powering the device is a substantial 7,000 mAh battery, a 22% increase over the previous model. It supports 90 W fast charging.
The smartphone is equipped with a MediaTek Dimensity 7400 chipset, built on a 4-nanometer process. Its eight-core CPU has a maximum clock speed of 2.60 GHz, a marginal improvement over the Dimensity 7300 in the Y400 Pro. The Y500 Pro will be available with 8 GB or 12 GB of RAM.
The front features a 6.67-inch AMOLED display with a 120 Hz refresh rate for smooth visuals. It is protected by Diamond Shield glass. This display is slightly smaller than the 6.77-inch screen of the preceding model.
The vivo Y500 Pro will be offered in Auspicious Cloud, Light Green, Soft Powder, and Titanium Black colors. Pricing starts at approximately $248 for the 8 GB RAM and 128 GB storage model. Other configurations include an 8 GB RAM and 256 GB storage option for about $276. A 12 GB RAM and 256 GB storage variant will cost around $317, while the top-tier 12 GB RAM and 512 GB storage model is priced at approximately $359.
