Marvel’s Venom Game Canceled Rumor Denied: Insiders Fight Back

A massive rumor just hit the video game industry. Fans woke up Saturday to shocking claims that Insomniac Games completely scrapped its highly anticipated standalone Venom project. The alleged reason was the tragic 2024 passing of legendary voice actor Tony Todd. But the reality behind closed doors looks radically different.

The entire chaotic news cycle started with Nadji Jeter. He is the voice actor for Miles Morales. Speaking on the Love It Film podcast, Jeter explicitly said the studio planned to drop both a Venom game and DLC. He claimed they lost Tony Todd and the project died with him. It sounded like a definitive end to a game meant to bridge the gap before the next major Spider-Man release.

Industry insiders immediately fought back against the rumor. Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier took to the ResetEra forums to shut the claim down. Jeter gave a direct podcast quote regarding the cancellation, but it met an immediate public refutation from Schreier and other verified game developers. They pointed out a glaring timeline issue. The Venom project was still actively being discussed at the Game Developers Conference in March 2026. Tony Todd passed away long before that event.

Why the disconnect? Video game development is massive right now. Spider-Man 2 had an inflated budget of nearly $300 million. In the modern entertainment pipeline, actors rarely see the whole picture. Since Miles Morales is not heavily featured in a Venom-centric spinoff, Jeter was likely just out of the loop on the game’s actual status.

Insomniac Games is not stopping. They are pushing full steam ahead with their M-rated Wolverine game. That title is locked for a September 2026 release. The studio remains silent on the exact fate of the Venom standalone. The game might be delayed due to budget constraints. It might still be happening. But it was not canceled simply because of Tony Todd’s passing.
