Vili Saarijärvi Injured in Swiss League Ice Hockey Match Against Berna

A recent incident in the Swiss League has left a lasting impression on fans of ice hockey. During a derby match between the SCL Tigers and the Berna CP, a shocking moment occurred that resulted in a player suffering a severe injury. Vili Saarijärvi, a defender for the Tigers, was involved in a play that led to a piece of his little finger being cut off by a skate blade.

The incident happened in the 26th minute of the game, when Saarijärvi blocked a shot by Joel Vermin in front of his goal. Initially, he tried to continue playing, but the pain soon became too much, and he had to leave the game and head to the locker room. A doctor attended to him and later searched the ice for the missing piece of finger, only to discover it was still inside Saarijärvi’s glove.

Following the incident, a member of the Tigers’ medical team was seen searching the ice for the missing piece of finger. Eventually, it was found inside Saarijärvi’s glove, and he received treatment, including stitches, to repair the damage. The sports director of the Tigers, Pascal Müller, stated that Saarijärvi was unlikely to play in the team’s next game against Lugano due to the severity of the injury. According to Müller, “Saarijärvi was shot in the hand. The puck hit his little finger directly and heavily, cutting off a piece of the tip of his finger.”

Saarijärvi did not wish to comment on the incident after the game. This season is his third and last with the Tigers, as he has already announced his signing with the Gin-Series for the next campaigns. The Tigers won the game against Berna 6-2, but the victory was overshadowed by the disturbing incident involving Saarijärvi’s injury.
