While threats targeting elected officials and parliamentarians are increasing, Sacha Houlié, LREM deputy for the 2nd district of Vienne, deplored the fire at his office, based in Poitiers, on the night of Thursday 19 to Friday 20 August.
“A trash can was placed in front of my door and set on fire,” the deputy told the New Central Republic.
To extinguish the fire, the firefighters had to break the front door. As a result of this incident, the permanent premises are now unusable. The deputy hopes to quickly find a temporary permanence to welcome the population.
An assault that the elected official deplored on his social networks.
My permanence, this precious place where I welcome our fellow citizens in Poitiers, was deliberately burnt down last night.
As serious as this inadmissible act is, it does not in any way affect my determination to act every day in the general interest in the service of the French. https://t.co/qGEAvFKA64

If no claim was found on the spot, the deputy deplored a consequent rise in hostility towards him since the passage of the law on the health pass. The latter even confided to having received “about forty” death threats, often by email. An investigation is still underway to find the perpetrators.
Since this morning, messages of support for Sacha Houlié have multiplied on social networks. Many elected officials and even members of the government denounced this act of vandalism.
Abject. This is where the climate of hatred maintained by certain oppositions leads.
Full support to you dear @SachaHoulie as well as of course to your collaborators. https://t.co/IVOCgF6KyI

An act as inadmissible as a total cowardice. These acts of extreme violence, targeting our democracy, must be condemned firmly and on all benches.
Full support for @SachaHoulie whose capacity I know never to give in to these fascist methods. https://t.co/lUD1xa1Wy8

Setting fire to a parliamentary office is a double crime of arsonist and unparliamentary. Democracy is the right to peaceful contradiction. Solidarity. https://t.co/pbR5ykuh88
