In limited overs cricket, Australia captain Aaron Finch is very happy with the response and support the team has received from the fans during the ODI series. The Australian team defeated Sri Lanka by four wickets in the ODI final match at R Premadasa Stadium on Friday. Australia won the T20 series 2-1, but lost the ODI series 2-3. A two-Test series between the two teams will now be played in Galle from June 29.

Speaking about the difficulties Sri Lankans have faced in recent months due to the economic crisis, Aaron Finch said: “We are very grateful that we were able to visit here. We know that Sri Lankans have the difficulties that we have faced. Hope we are able to bring some happiness to the people of the country in these eight white ball games.

Despite the recent problems facing the country, including prolonged power cuts, the Sri Lankan team showed their spirit to the world by winning their first series at home against Australia in 30 years.

On his first tour of the country since 2016, team captain Finch said the support provided by the people of the island nation was second to none. Thousands of people in traditional Australian colors turned out at R Premadasa Stadium for the final ODI to show solidarity with the away team, which Finch said was quite surprising.

“It was excellent, the people of Sri Lanka are incredible. The support they have received from them has been incredible. They are huge fans of cricket. They are connected to the spirit of the game,” Finch was quoted as saying by the ICC.

In a video quoted by cricket.com.au, Australian multi-talent Glenn Maxwell said: “Everyone is dressed in yellow. They had Australian flags. It’s very special and credit goes to everyone here.” It has been a very hard time for the locals. They expected both teams to entertain them and they have had a great time during the one-day series.”
