The Olympic Academy of the Dominican Republic awarded actor Víctor Checo the “Olympic Button” for his contributions to the arts, theater, directing and acting, in which he has dedicated a large part of his long career and in which he has transcended in the society.
The distinction was made during a ceremony held in the city of Santiago.
The Czech teacher, in addition to receiving the “Olympic Button”, was also given a plaque that bears witness to the distinguished homage.
The plaque refers to the contributions made by Checo to the Dominican theater, also as a teacher of that subject and as an artist.
“He defines himself as a post-war artist from April 1965, due to the impact that the war caused on his spirit, linking himself for 6 decades to the cultural groups of Santiago and to the independent theater. The foundations of Dominican cinema have had in this artist, owner of a dramatic interpretation and a very particular organic histrionics, a quality, enduring and authentic reference, and an icon of Dominican art”, adds the plaque given to the master Checo by Pedro Julio Quezada, president of the Dominican Federation of Art and Culture and Director of the Dominican Olympic Academy.
The Dominican Olympic Committee each year recognizes personalities of culture and the arts who stand out for their contributions to society. In previous years, the teachers Salvador Pérez Martínez, Mrs. María Cristina Camilo and the teacher and playwright Franklin Domínguez have been recognized.
With the slogan “Theater is health”, the recognition day was held in Santiago, and included a workshop given by the teacher Checo, as well as various activities in important institutions such as Casa de Arte, 37 por las Tablas, and the Cultural Center of Santiago.
For his part, engineer Pedro Julio Quezada, director of the Olympic Academy, said that the institution is proud to recognize the career of a great artist like Víctor Checo, who has left his mark on the national scene through his creative work. with a seal of quality, and who has played an important role in the formation of values in dozens of young people who have experienced his talent as a teacher.
