Vicente Belda, his son and Superman López, investigated in a doping network

The ex-cyclist and former sports director Vicente Belda Vicedo, implicated in Operation Puerto and later acquitted, his son Vicente Belda García, a masseuse for the Astana team, and the Colombian cyclist Miguel Ángel López are some of those investigated in the plot dedicated to the distribution of medicines banned for doping of athletes and that it has dismantled the Central Operative Unit (UCO) of the Civil Guard, according to the names revealed by the newspaper El País.

As sources close to the investigation have indicated to EFE, both were related to the doctor and professor at the University of Extremadura (UNEX) Marcos Maynar, who was arrested last May for, among other alleged crimes, illegal drug trafficking and whom a judge released with charges after declaring in Court number 4 of Cáceres.

He has also been investigated in the operation, called Ilex, Colombian cyclist Miguel Ángel “Supermán” López, Astana runner and also accused in the investigation who directs the court number 4 of Cáceres.

In the operation too Maynar’s assistant, a doctor in Exercise Physiology, was arrested.

In total there are eight people investigated in this plot, whose members had specific missions, including obtaining chemical components. that later they mixed to elaborate the prohibited medicines, among them one used for doping, Menotropin.

The network used the facilities of the University of Extremadura to attend to the clients that other members involved captured.

Another of those investigated, in this case in the Basque Country, is exclist Ángel Vázquez Iglesias, who was sanctioned in 2007 for doping until 2010but even so, he came to participate in some competitions before the end of his sanction period.

The investigation remains open with the collaboration of security forces from other countries to which shipments of these prohibited drugs have been made.
