Vettel misses the tension of F1: wants to return to Aston Martin

Sebastian, former Formula 1 driver admits he misses the competition of racing as he thinks about his sporting comeback

At the end of the 2022 season, Vettel decided to retire from F1, ending his successful stint in the series. Vettel won four consecutive F1 titles from 2010 to 2013 with Red Bull and in his later years, he raced for Ferrari and Aston Martin. Having adopted a new lifestyle outside of F1, the German admits it took him some time to adjust to the situation.

“After so much time in racing, I have something like an everyday life for the first time,” he told Bild. “It took me some time to get used to it. Above all, I enjoy the time with my children.” “Although at first it was strange not being there, I take it well and I follow the sport with great interest“.

Vettel, between strangeness and interest in F1

Vettel will once again get behind the wheel of historic cars later this year at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, driving in the event while promoting the use of synthetic fuels. However, with his full-time racing days in F1 seemingly behind him, Vettel admits that he misses some of the excitement that comes with being involved in the series.

“Until now, I am very satisfied with my decision. But what I miss the most is the competition and the tension,” he said. “I let myself be inspired, I look a lot, I collect ideas. Let’s see what ends up being a project. Driving my old green fuel racing cars at Goodwood is one thing. Motorsport is my passion”.

Vettel’s desire to compete and his passion for motorsport

“It’s important to me show that we can drive just as well and fast on synthetic fuel, that is, neutral in CO2. And that already today synthetic fuels offer a solution to have fun in a responsible way. A lot of people still don’t know.” Vettel’s former team Aston Martin has had a dream start to the 2023 campaign, scoring four podium finishes in the first five races.

This is a substantial improvement over last year, when he finished the season in seventh place in the Constructors’ Championship. “I am very happy for my old team,” said Vettel. “They have also worked hard in recent years. It’s nice that now they are getting some trophies”. Some phrases that could augur his return.
