Venezuelan Darwin Marrero, new pitching coach of the Eagles

The Águilas Cibaeñas announced the hiring of the experienced Venezuelan pitching coach Darwin Marrero, to hold that position in the 2023-2024 season.

Ángel Ovalles, Operations Manager of the Aguiluchos, declared when making the announcement that the Venezuelan arrives with vast experience in the minor leagues and in the Caribbean circuits.

“Marrero is currently the pitching coach of the triple A branch of the St. Louis Cardinals, an organization in which he has been 11 years and where he has worked together with the leader of the Águilas José Leger,” he said later.

For manager Ovalles, Marrero is the right man to fill the position since he comes with a convincing resume.

“Marrero is the ideal man with a lot of knowledge of Caribbean baseball and he will bring a philosophy very similar to the one we have been developing in recent years,” said Ovalles.

In Caribbean baseball, Marrero was with the Panamanian champion team in the 2019 Caribbean Series. Last season he entered as "pitching coach" to the Navegantes del Magallanes team in the playoff phase, together with the rookie Yadier Molina.
