Van Empel, world champion at the age of 20 in Hoogerheide

The Dutch Fem van Empel achieved this Saturday her first elite cyclocross world champion title by winning with authority on the circuit in the Dutch town of Hoogerheide. Van Empel, 20, thus puts the finishing touch to his great season, in which since this Saturday he has accumulated 14 wins. He finished ahead of two compatriots: Puck Pieterse, second at 39 seconds, and the defending rider, Lucinda Brand, third at 1:11 minutes. The new world champion completed the last three laps of the Hoogerheide track alone and led a Dutch triplet at home.

Lucía González signed the most outstanding performance by the Spanish team in a day of the World Championship in Hoogerheide where water passed through for a good part of the day and in which, Furthermore, Alain Suárez finished 24th among the sub23s, and María Filgueiras 28th among the juniors.

The five-time Spanish elite champion, Lucía González, once again showed remarkable solidity to establish herself among the twenty best cyclo-cross riders in the world. After a not very good start, and a few first turns sharing rhythm with Sofía Rodríguez, Little by little, the Asturian was able to display her good pedal stroke to enter the top-20 and defend that position until the end.
