KUWAIT CITY: The US Secretary of Defense has expressed concern over Afghanistan and raised hopes with the Taliban.
Speaking to the media in Kuwait, the US Secretary of Defense said that “al-Qaeda may try to resurrect in Afghanistan. We hope the Taliban will not allow this to happen.”
“The United States is ready to prevent al Qaeda from returning to Afghanistan. Al Qaeda made Afghanistan a base for an attack on the United States 20 years ago,” he said.
Referring to the situation in Afghanistan, the Defense Minister said, “The whole world is watching the situation to see what happens next. We hope everything will be better and better. The people will get their rights.”

Speaking to the media after the withdrawal from Afghanistan, he described the 20-year operation as a success and said that the real goal of the United States was to eliminate Al Qaeda, in which complete success has been achieved.
