US imposes travel restrictions on Haitians for alleged links to criminal organizations

The Government of the United States has announced this Thursday the imposition of travel restrictions on several Haitians and their relatives for alleged links to criminal organizations.

The secretary of the US Department of State, Antony Blinken, has indicated that this measure "send a clear message" of the "ongoing commitment" from washington "to root out corruption and impact the behavior of bad actors whose influence sustains lawlessness in Haiti".

Thus, Blinken has stressed that these additional sanctions are part of supporting the Haitian people "by continuing to promote accountability for people who encourage violence, corruption and instability".

"The Department continues to identify individuals and their immediate family members who may be subject to visa restrictions under this policy. Our actions today show that there are consequences for those who incite violence and unrest in the country."reads a statement from the office led by Blinken.

With everything, has condemned "in the strongest terms the violent gang activity" and has shown his "deep concern" by the situation of the country, in reference to the activity of the armed gangs.

"We continue to support Haitian citizens, organizations and public servants who are committed to generating hope and opportunity for a better future in their nation."has settled.
