UP Warriors Knock RCB Out of WPL Playoff Contention

In a stunning turn of events, UP Warriors have sent Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) packing with a 12-run victory, effectively ending their Women’s Premier League (WPL) campaign. Despite being out of the running for the finals themselves, UP Warriors managed to take RCB down with them. The latter desperately needed a win to stay in contention for the playoffs, but Richa Ghosh’s blistering 69 runs in the final overs couldn’t save them from elimination. On the other hand, Georgia Voll’s match-winning 99 runs for UP proved to be the decisive factor.

A Record-Breaking Feat for UP Warriors

UP Warriors made history by posting a massive 225 runs while batting first, which not only shattered Delhi Capitals’ record of 223 runs against RCB in 2023 but also became the highest score in the WPL. This monumental feat put immense pressure on RCB, who had a golden opportunity to not only save face but also create history by chasing down the record target of 226 runs. A win would have kept their playoff hopes alive, but alas, it was not meant to be.

RCB’s WPL 2025 Campaign Comes to a Close

Going into the match against UP, RCB had managed only two wins in six games, with a mere four points to their name. The team was under immense pressure to win to stay in the running for the playoffs. However, they fell short by 12 runs. Although Sneh Rana’s cameo of 26 runs off six balls in the final two overs injected new life into the match, RCB ultimately failed to see out the full 20 overs. It’s a far cry from their promising start to the season, where they won their first two matches, only to lose the subsequent five and bow out of the tournament. The question on everyone’s mind is – what went wrong for a team that started so strong?
