The late Deb Mukherjee, father of ‘Brahmastra’ director Ayan Mukherjee, was laid to rest in a funeral procession that saw various Bollywood celebrities pay their respects. Actress Kajol, who is Deb’s niece, has now taken to social media to share a heartfelt post, remembering her uncle as one of the best men in her life.
Kajol shared an old photo of herself with her late uncle on Instagram, accompanied by a poignant note. She wrote, “Every Durga Puja, we would take pictures together, all dressed up and looking lovely. I still can’t wrap my head around a world without you. You were one of the best men I’ve had in my life. You will be loved, remembered, and missed every day.” The shared picture appears to be from a Durga Puja celebration, where Kajol is seen posing with her uncle.
Deb Mukherjee’s funeral was attended by several film industry personalities, including actor Ranbir Kapoor, who is a close friend of Ayan Mukherjee. Ranbir, along with his wife Alia Bhatt, put their birthday plans on hold to be with Ayan during this difficult time. Other notable attendees included director Karan Johar, actor Hrithik Roshan, and veteran scriptwriter Salim Khan. Deb Mukherjee was also the father-in-law of director Ashutosh Gowariker.
Born in 1941 in Kanpur, Deb Mukherjee’s mother, Satidevi, was the sister of legendary personalities like Ashok Kumar, Anup Kumar, and Kishore Kumar. His siblings included actor Joy Mukherjee and film producer Shomu Mukherjee, who was married to actress Tanuja. Deb’s nieces, Kajol and Rani Mukherjee, are also prominent actresses in the film industry.
Deb Mukherjee had been married twice and had two children – a daughter, Sunita, from his first marriage, who is married to filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker, and a son, Ayan, from his second marriage.
