US senators condemned, Tuesday, September 20, the avalanche of threats received by the FBI since the search in August of the residence of former President Donald Trump. “I have said many times that violence against law enforcement is never acceptable, no matter what ideology drives it”said influential Democratic Senator Dick Durbin. “These threats were encouraged by the former president and his allies”, he said again. The Senate voted “unanimously” a text condemning these threats.

On August 8, the FBI raided Donald Trump’s residence in Florida and seized boxes of classified documents that the Republican had not returned after leaving the White House. The former president is suspected of having violated an American law on espionage, which very strictly regulates the possession of confidential documents. Donald Trump has been storming since against a search he deems “illegal and unconstitutional”and repeats having been targeted for political reasons.

Calls for “civil war”

Since this operation, the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security have reported an increase in threats and acts of violence against federal police officers. On August 11, an armed man, for example, tried to force his way into FBI premises in Cincinnati, Ohio, after throwing a “call to arms” on Donald Trump’s social network, Truth Social. He was shot dead by federal police.

The text adopted by the Senate describes other attempts at intimidation, such as the threat to file a “dirty bomb” in front of the FBI headquarters or even calls for “civil war” and at the “armed revolt”. He also highlights the “repeated attacks by the ex-president who, among other insults, called FBI officials ‘vicious monsters’“.
