United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Gutteres “firmly” condemned in a statement on Saturday “any attempt to seize power by force of arms” in Burkina Faso, the day after a coup d’etat in the country, the second in eight months.
The secretary general “calls on all actors to refrain from any violence and to seek dialogue,” said his spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric in a press release.
He “expresses his full support for regional efforts aimed at a rapid return to constitutional order in the country”, also affirming that Burkina Faso “needs peace, stability and unity to combat terrorist groups and networks criminals who operate in certain parts of the country”.
