Kiev (BLAZETRENDS).- The Ukrainian counteroffensive has managed to recover a total of 24 square kilometers around the city of Bakhmut, located on the eastern front and practically entirely occupied by Russia, the Ukrainian army announced on Monday. .

The counteroffensive liberated another 10 square kilometers in the south of the country last week, bringing the total to 169 square kilometers recovered on this part of the front since the campaign began about five weeks ago.

“In the Bakhmut area, the armed forces have liberated 24 square kilometers,” the Defense General Staff announced in a statement posted on the official Telegram channel of the Ukrainian army.

According to the note, 4 of those square kilometers were recovered by Ukrainian troops during the past week, in which several Kiev spokesmen reported periodic advances in the area without giving figures on the reconquered surface.

The report adds that the Ukrainian forces are consolidating in the retaken areas and continue to inflict damage with artillery fire on enemy targets identified by their intelligence.

“The enemy resists, moves units and troops, actively uses its reserves,” Ukrainian General Staff spokesman Andri Kovalov said in the statement. “Intense fighting continues here,” Kovalov stressed, referring to the Bakhmut area.

In a separate note, Kovalov explained that Ukraine resists the Russian offensives in Avdivka and Márinka, located, like Bakhmut, on the eastern front.

Kovalov had previously announced the recovery by Ukraine of 4 square kilometers during the past week in the surroundings of Bakhmut, in eastern Ukraine. In total in that area of ​​the front, Ukraine has recaptured 24 square kilometers since the counteroffensive began, he explained.

According to the balance of the Ukrainian General Staff spokesman, the kyiv forces have regained control of a total of 193 square kilometers that were occupied by the Russians in the last five weeks.
