UK to send 350 additional soldiers to Poland due to tension in Ukraine

Britain will send an additional 350 troops to Poland, Defense Minister Ben Wallace announced on Monday, to bolster NATO’s eastern flank amid rising tensions over the possibility of a Russian invasion of Ukraine.

These troops will serve to reinforce the contingent of 100 British military engineers that had been sent to the country.

To them will be added "another 350 British soldiers… as a bilateral deployment, to show that we can work together and send a strong signal that the UK and Poland stand behind each other"Wallace said at a joint press conference in London with his Polish counterpart Mariusz Blaszczak.

Fears are growing in that country that a Russian invasion of Ukraine will cause a mass exodus of refugees to its borders.

The new British troops "cooperate with the Polish armed forces in increasing security, especially when it comes to border threats"Blaszczak told reporters.
