Two more players withdrew from India Open badminton tournament due to Corona

New Delhi. Two more players withdrew from the tournament’s main draw ahead of their mixed doubles semi-final bout as the coronavirus pandemic began to take over the Indian Open badminton tournament.

Russian mixed doubles player Rodion Alimov was found to be infected with corona and withdrew from the $400,000 prize pool tournament. Her mixed doubles partner Elina Davletova also had to withdraw due to being in close contact. Yong Kei Terry Hee and Wei Han Tan from Indonesia got walkovers.

“The Badminton World Federation confirms that a player who tested positive in the current draw has withdrawn from the Yonex Sunrise India Open 2022,” the Badminton World Federation said in a statement. The player tested positive in the mandatory RT-PCR test on Friday. The associate who was in close contact with him has also withdrawn his name. Their rivals got a walkover.” Earlier yesterday, seven players from India, including World Championship silver medalist Kidambi Srikanth, had to withdraw after being found infected.
