Donald Trump is furious with Vladimir Putin. The US president says he’s angry because Putin won’t help negotiate a peace deal in Ukraine. Trump warns that if Putin doesn’t cooperate, the US might impose more tariffs on Russian oil.
In a recent interview, Trump told NBC News he’s upset with Putin’s comments about Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky. Trump feels Putin’s words were unfair and that a new leader in Ukraine would mean no long-term deal.
Trump says if Russia and the US can’t reach a deal to stop the bloodshed in Ukraine, and if he thinks Russia is at fault, he’ll impose more tariffs on Russian oil.
When asked if he’ll speak with Putin this week, Trump said yes. He also said Putin knows he’s angry.
Last week, the US announced that Ukraine and Russia agreed to a ceasefire in the Black Sea. But Putin set conditions, including partial lifting of Western sanctions, in exchange for the ceasefire.
According to CNN, the situation remains uncertain.
