The police in the German city of Hamburg (north) suspect that one of the at least six people who died in a shooting that occurred in a local Jehovah’s Witnesses may be the author of the shots, according to a police spokesman.
The spokesman, Holger Vehren, said there is "indications that a perpetrator is eventually at the scene and that he is one of the deceased"although there is still no official confirmation of this aspect of the event, which occurred around 9:00 p.m. local time (20:00 GMT).
At least six people were killed this Thursday in a shooting that occurred in a church in Hamburg, according to authorities in that city quoted by local media, although the newspaper "Bild" reports that the dead could amount to seven.
The event occurred in a place belonging to the religious confession of Jehovah’s Witnesses in that city and several people were also injured in the shooting, the number of which has not yet been determined.
The city police reported via Twitter that "there is still no certain information about the reason" of the shooting and asked the population not to disseminate "assumptions or rumors" about what happened.
The event occurred on Deelböge street around 9:00 p.m. local time (8:00 p.m. GMT) when the perpetrator(s) fired at those attending an act of Jehovah’s Witnesses, according to local media, which added that they were alerted police and fire services.
The mayor of Hamburg, Peter Tschentscher, described as "horrifying" what happened in the city and declared that "the security forces are working intensively to pursue the perpetrators and clarify what happened".
Several people with gunshot wounds were found at the scene and local media report that seventeen of those attending the event at the scene of the shooting were unharmed.
