The Dominican Coffee Institute (Indocafé) develops a intense day of rescue of more than 37,000 tasks of coffee that were affected by the passage of Hurricane Fiona in the eastern region of the country.
The institution’s executive director, Leónidas Batista Díaz, led a operative accompanied by experienced technicians in the recovery of coffee plantationsin the municipalities of Machado, Hato Mayor del Rey, and Vicentillo, in the province of El Seibo and in the area of Anamuya, in the province of La Altagracia.
During the actions, farming tools and implements are used to remove felled trees from the plantations, prune them and rehabilitate the access roads, to contribute to the rapid recovery of the coffee plantations.
Batista also led the intervention for the rehabilitation work in the Arroyo Chico area, in the Juana Vicenta section, in the Santa Bárbara municipality of the Samaná province, where the remains of fallen trees are collected, to rehabilitate access to the plantations corresponding to more than 200 coffee growers.
During the tour, Batista Díaz emphasized that it is a matter of high priority for the government of President Luis Abinader, the recovery of normality in the coffee plantations affected by the ravages of the hurricane, so that they can continue the harvest in the current harvest in these regions.
In this sense, he argued that access roads to coffee areas are being rehabilitated and repairedwith the support of the Minister of Agriculture, Limbert Cruz.
The official stated that the operation is part of the actions of the government of President Luis Abinader to rescue the communities affected by Hurricane Fiona.
Batista Díaz was accompanied by the regional directors of the Southeast, Alexander Duvergé, and the Northeast, Juan Tomás Pérez, and the person in charge of the coffee area of the East, José Elías Suriel.
