Reflections on a Departure
Iván Alejo, the skilled winger from Valladolid, has broken his silence after parting ways with Cádiz. Despite signing a contract extension until 2028, Iván had other plans in store. In an exclusive interview with Canal Sur’s Ball, he shared his thoughts on his time at Cádiz, his struggles with adapting to the category, and his feelings towards the fans.
Assessing the Current Situation
Iván believes that Cádiz is in good hands with their current coach, Garitano. “He has very clear ideas and will get the best out of the players,” Iván said. “He’s more offensive than Cervera and knows the category well.” Iván also praised the team’s acquisition of Ontiveros, stating that he’s the most differential footballer in the entire Second Division.
A Desire to Leave
Iván revealed that he had wanted to leave Cádiz as early as last summer. “I had a very bad time emotionally, and I notified the president that I would be leaving regardless of the outcome,” he explained. Iván also expressed his appreciation for Paco Lopez, stating that he was not responsible for the situation.
A Bittersweet Goodbye
Iván acknowledged that Cádiz is the team of his life, but he couldn’t help feeling that some fans had been unfair to him. “I’m an inconspicuous footballer, but in the 163 games I’ve played, I’ve given it my all,” he said. Iván also reflected on the team’s decline, stating that none of the players had assimilated the relegation, and the summer was very turbulent, with many players wanting to leave.
A Vote of Confidence
Iván expressed his trust in Sergio González, stating that he was convinced that they would not have lost with him at the helm. “With him, when you had to win, you won,” Iván said.
