They order the evacuation of more than 45,000 people in southern Japan due to Typhoon Mawar

The Japanese authorities have ordered this Thursday the evacuation in the south of the Okinawa island due to the arrival of the typhoon Mawar to the archipelago, for which More than 46,200 people have received a notice to take refuge from the storm.

The Nanjo Prefecture has sent the order to evacuate the coastal areas at 07:45 am (local time), which corresponds to level four — out of five — of alert. Thus, 46,210 people in the city have received the evacuation notice, the NHK chain has reported.

In addition, Yaese Prefecture also has issued an evacuation order from various districts of the city, urging the elderly and people with disabilities to leave their homes.

The Meteorological Agency has urged citizens to remain alert to strong winds, high waves and rain. Other cities, such as Okinawa or Itoman, have also issued evacuation alerts.

The storm has winds of up to 126 kilometers per hour near its center and gusts of up to 180 kilometers per hour. The waves can reach over nine meters in height.

The typhoon is expected to affect the island region of Okinawa until Saturday and affect the archipelago for several more days as it moves relatively slowly.
