David Cornwell, known as John le Carré, author of works such as “The Spy Who Comes Out of the Cold” and “The Night Manager”, died on Saturday, aged 89
The announcement of the death of the British writer John Le Carré was made this Sunday night, on Twitter, by his agency, who says he was the victim of pneumonia. “We confirm that David Cornwell – John le Carré – died of pneumonia on Saturday night after a short battle with the disease.”
John le Carré is the pseudonym of David John Moore Cornwell, notable among critics and the public for his espionage novels, such as The Spy Who Came Out of the Cold , who, in 1963, made him the author of this most famous genre in the world.
In his tweet, his agent describes Le Carré as “a giant of English literature”, whose “work has been read and appreciated worldwide for six decades”.
The writer was born in October 1931, in Poole, UK. He studied at the universities of Berne, Switzerland, and Oxford, England. He was a professor of French and German at a private school, before joining the British intelligence services, he brought his experience to fiction in works such as “The Mole” and “The Spy Who Came from the Cold”.
