The women's soccer team won the passport to its fourth World Cup

The Argentine women’s soccer team managed to qualify for a World Cup for the fourth time in its history, after beating Paraguay 3-1 in the match for third place in the Copa América, and will participate in the 2023 Australia/New Zealand World Cup.

The National Team led by Germán Portanova will have its World Cup quota after the experiences in the Cups of the United States 2003, China 2007 and France 2019.

The goalkeeper and captain of the national team, Vanina Correa, was in all three and the coach was also repeated, who was always Carlos Borrello (succeeded this year by Portanova). Defender Gabriela Chávez played the 2007 and 2019 tournaments.

From the squad that qualified, in addition to Correa and Chávez, another 12 soccer players competed in the last World Cup in France: goalkeeper Solana Pereyra; defenders Agustina Barroso, Aldana Cometti and Eliana Stabile; midfielders Miriam Mayorga, Vanesa Santana, Dalila Ippolito, Ruth Bravo and Estefania Banini; and the strikers Florencia Bon Segundo, Mariana Larroquette and Soledad Jaimes.

In none of the three World Cups, the Argentines managed to advance from the first round. In 2003 and 2007, the team lost all three group stage matches (with only one goal scored per tournament) and placed 16th.

In 2019, on the other hand, the team led by Borrello drew two games in the group stage (0-0 against Japan and 3-3 against Scotland with a great comeback) and lost the rest (0-1 against England). He finished in 18th place.

Argentina did not participate in the qualifying stages of the World Cup in China in 1991, and in the cases of Sweden 1995, United States 1999, Germany 2011 and Canada 2015, it failed to qualify.
