Missing Indian Woman Found In Pakistan: An Indian woman was sent to Pakistan 20 years ago by a Mumbai-based job placement agent promising to get her a job in Dubai. The woman was traced with the help of a video on social media and now she is requesting the Indian government for help to reunite the family.

Imam Waliullah Maroof at a mosque in Karachi said officials of the Indian High Commission in Islamabad had contacted him and wanted to meet Hamidi Begum, so that she could be sent back to Mumbai. “She is desperate to go home and be reunited with her family. She currently lives with her stepson in Karachi,” Maroof said. Hamidi said over the phone that she had not seen her child and family for 20 years and wanted to hug them. “I was able to talk to my daughter and her daughters over video call, but I want to meet them in person,” she said.

Agent promised to get a job in Dubai

Hamidi used to work as a cook in Qatar and in 2002 a job agent in Mumbai promised her a job in Dubai. The agent defrauded them and sent them to Karachi. From Karachi, he was taken to Hyderabad in Pakistan’s Sindh province, where he was confined for three months. After her release, she married a Pakistani widower, who also had a son.

Pakistani husband passed away three years ago

According to Maroof, the Pakistani husband of the Indian woman had passed away three years ago. He had come to Karachi from Hyderabad 14 years ago. He said, “I knew there was a problem with this woman, because she always seemed concerned. When she told me her story, I decided to help her by posting her video and story on YouTube, where Fortunately, an Indian journalist named Khalfan Sheikh saw this and contacted me.”

Also told the address of Mumbai and the name of his children

Maroof also helped some Bangladeshi women who were illegally brought to Pakistan through her social media account. He said women like Hamidi are illiterate and financially poor and it becomes difficult for them to find work in Pakistan. Maroof said, “She simply accepts it as her fate and starts living as it is, but Hamidi wanted to be reunited with her family. She also remembered her Mumbai address and the names of her children. It was a very emotional moment for all of us when we arranged a video call with his daughter Yasmin Shaikh.”

Family waited months for phone call

Hamidi regularly spoke to her family over the phone during her stay in Qatar and Riyadh, but lost contact with her family after being framed by an agent, as she was locked in a room and had no money. were not either. Hamidi’s daughter Yasmin said that when she lived abroad, her mother used to call her regularly. After leaving Hamidi’s home in 2002, the family waited months for phone calls and finally contacted the agent who had arranged for Hamidi’s visit. Yasmin said, “He told us that our mother was fine and didn’t want to talk to us. We kept going again and again to ask questions about our mother, and then the agent suddenly disappeared.”
