EL SALVADOR AND NICARAGUA REINFORCE THEIR NUMBER OF VACCINES

El Salvador received a new batch of 198,900 vaccines against covid-19 from the pharmaceutical company Pfizer, which now adds up to 2,528,100 million doses from this laboratory, and also applies the formulas Sinovac (4,150,000), Moderna (3,000,200), Sinopharm (1,668,000) and AstraZeneca (1,407,200).

The new shipment arrives in the country at a time when it is experiencing a rise in daily coronavirus infections, which began last June and remains in the first days of October, according to official data.

Meanwhile, Nicaragua received the first batch of 192,000 Russian Sputnik Light vaccines, consisting of a single dose.

Russia claims that Sputnik Light is 70% effective against the delta variant of the coronavirus.

REINFORCEMENT OF PERU’S HEALTH PERSONNEL

Peru began this day to apply a third dose of the anticovid vaccine to its health personnel, following the recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO), which recommended a booster dose for risk groups.

These first booster doses will be administered to all health personnel, including from emergency services and intensive care to administrative workers.

The Minister of Health, Hernando Cevallos, was present at the event, who recalled that, in addition to health personnel, the other risk group that will also receive a booster dose will be those over 65 years of age.

SLOW PROCESS IN BOLIVIA

Bolivia suffers the consequences of a slow vaccination process that has 6.6 million doses in reserve together with the risk of expiration of thousands of them.

Some of the departmental health services (Sedes), which depend on the governorates, face problems in implementing the national vaccination plan.

La Paz, for example, has 5,000 Janssen vaccines about to expire, so the authorities asked that they be returned to the Ministry of Health in case the city does not have the capacity to supply them to the population.

Bolivia acquired more than 14 million vaccines, of which around 6.6 million remain in cold chains under the authority of departmental and municipal authorities, the Ministry of Health said.

Some areas of the country are already beginning to show signs of a fourth wave of coronavirus, including Santa Cruz, the largest region in the country and the one hardest hit by the pandemic.
