The United States has eased travel restrictions for Pakistan

Travel restrictions imposed on Pakistan by the United States have been relaxed.

The travel warning has been upgraded from level four to level three. The State Department has revised and updated it from ‘Do not travel’ to ‘Avoid unnecessary travel’.

At Level Four, US citizens were instructed to “avoid unnecessary travel to Pakistan.” While this is not considered a major change, it is still a significant improvement.

Travel restrictions to Pakistan will be maintained by US government and diplomatic personnel.

The notification urges US citizens to “reconsider their trip to Pakistan due to terrorism and sectarian violence”, but recommends extra caution due to code 19, as “the threat has increased in some areas.”

According to the latest Travel Advisory, Pakistani security forces conducted effective counter-terrorism and insurgency operations and, since 2014, Pakistan’s security environment has improved.

He said that major cities, especially Islamabad, have greater resources and security infrastructure and that security forces in these areas could be more active in responding to emergencies than in other parts of the country.

On the other hand, the Foreign Ministry spokesman called the US decision a step in the right direction and said it was a recognition of the improvement of the peace and security situation in Pakistan.
