Spanish cycling continues to gain a foothold in the big races on the calendar. If this Wednesday we knew that Kern Pharma and Burgos-BH would run in Flecha Wallona and that Kern Pharma would repeat its presence in Liège-Bastoña-Liège, now another Spanish team will make history in another of cycling’s monuments: Paris-Roubaix.
The Zaaf Cycling Team, the innovative Spanish women’s team that has started rolling this season, has received one of the seven invitations that the organization has granted to play the Paris-Roubaix Femmes avec Zwift next April 8. This is an accolade for the project headed by Manel Lacambra, who will have a special incentive on the cobblestones of Roubaix to vindicate himself before the elite of the women’s peloton. In this way, the Zaaf will accompany Movistar as Spanish teams present in the race.
A Movistar that will once again be the only Spanish representative in the men’s event, as the ‘Hell of the North’ organization has confirmed that the 18 teams on the UCI World Tour will be joined by Israel Premier Tech, Lotto Dstny and TotalEnergies, classified by sporting merits; and the four teams invited by the organization among which, this time, there is no Spanish team, since the invitations have gone to the Belgians Bingoal WB and Flanders Baloise, the Norwegian Uno-X Team and the Swiss Q36.5, the team of which Vincenzo Nibali acts as ambassador and which will face the feared cobblestones of Roubaix for the first time .
