“Morocco does not seek provocation or escalation with Algeria, and even the process related to this location has stalled,” explained the same sources, who detailed that since January 2022, Moroccan diplomacy has sent seven letters as part of its exchanges with Algeria sent to this location, which responded along with five others.

They added that the Moroccan Foreign Ministry is expanding its headquarters by acquiring premises attached to or close to the building. To this end, the sources added that unused premises in the area of ​​other nearby embassies such as Austria, Switzerland, Ivory Coast and the United Statesand they are negotiating with Denmark to purchase unused space with the aim of expanding the ministry’s headquarters and establishing a diplomatic academy and museum.

The same sources added that Morocco “has always worked to preserve the good neighborliness between the two states and the brotherhood between the two peoples” Algerians and Moroccans.

The Algerian government condemned yesterday, Sunday, “in the strongest possible terms” what it described as a “plan to seize” the premises of its embassy in Rabat and reiterated that Algeria “will respond to these provocations by any means it deems appropriate “.

Algeria and Morocco have closed their land borders since 1994. Diplomatic tensions that have existed for decades between both countries due to the Western Sahara conflict increased in August 2021 when Algiers severed its relations with Rabat and closed its airspace with the neighboring country.
