Spain won its first tickets for Paris 2024 in September thanks to Fátima Gálmez, by proclaiming herself runner-up in the world in the shooting trap modality, and to Inés Bergua, Mireia Martínez, Ana Arnau, Salma Solaun, Valeria Márquez and Patricia Pérez, world bronze in rhythmic gymnastics team competition.
Therefore, Spain already has two Olympic places, for a total of six athletes. It must be remembered that none of the aforementioned have guaranteed their presence in Paris 2024, since these places are awarded to the country and not to the athlete, although everything indicates that, except for injury, practically all of them will be in the French capital. Not all because the rhythm ensemble will have to discard.
And once Spain has already opened the account, a month of October arrives with only two sports that grant direct places for Paris 2024: shooting —the Clay Pigeon Shooting World Cup is already underway and later it will be the Rifle and Pistol Championship— and artistic gymnastics.
In addition, there are several open Olympic processes through rankings: taekwondo, tennis, table tennis, volleyball, MTB, triathlon, archery, golf, skateboarding, judo, track cycling, BMX racing, weightlifting, shooting and in mid-October road cycling begins.
The events that grant direct places for Paris 2024 are the following:
Skeet Shooting World Cup
It has been held in Osijek (Croatia) since last September 20 and the skeet tests, which grant four places per gender with a maximum of one per country and taking into account that each country can compete in Paris 2024 with a maximum of two fencers per test. In addition, those fencers who have already obtained a place for their country cannot obtain a new one. José María Mielgo is the only Spanish representative and will start the competition on October 7, with the final two days later. These places are for the country, not for the athlete.
World of Rifle and Pistol
It takes place from October 12 to 25 in Cairo (Egypt) and grants four places per event with a maximum of one per country and taking into account that each country can compete in Paris 2024 with a maximum of two fencers per event. In addition, those fencers who have already obtained a place for their country cannot obtain a new one. In the 10-meter air pistol and rifle, if a country obtains a place in both genders throughout the entire qualifying process, it also obtains a place in the mixed competitions. Jesús Oviedo and Paula Grande, in the 10-meter air rifle, Martín Freije and Sonia Franquet, in the 10-meter air pistol, and Jorge Llaves and Mercedes Soto, in the 25-meter pistol, are the Spanish representatives. These places are for the country, not for the athlete.
Artistic Gymnastics World Cup
It takes place from October 29 to November 6 in Liverpool (United Kingdom) and grants three places per gender in the team competition. The five components of said teams in Paris 2024 will also be able to compete in the individual events.
