The migrant caravan rests after entering the Mexican state of Veracruz

La caravana migrante descansa tras entrar al estado mexicano de Veracruz

The caravan of Central American migrants heading to the United States rested this Wednesday after crossing the border of the western Mexican state of Veracruz at a slower pace and at a slow pace, where they are guarded by a strong security device.

After leaving the southern state of Oaxaca the day before, the migrants spent the night in the communities of San Martín and Palo Dulce and were accompanied by the National Guard to the center of the municipality of Jesús Carranza.

According to the Veracruz government, just over 340 people from Honduras, Nicaragua, El Salvador and Haiti remain in this town after many members gave up the caravan, which reached 5,000 migrants.

The main reason is that many of them have accepted offers from the authorities to receive humanitarian and permanent resident visitor cards.

The contingent that remains in the caravan intends to continue on its way to Sayula de Alemán, but has not yet specified when.

State authorities offered the migrants medical support, while the National Migration Institute (INM) reiterated its proposal for humanitarian visas for them to remain in Mexico and renounce going to the United States.

In addition, the municipality is protected by more than 400 elements of the Army, the INM, the National Guard and the State Police.

"They are protected from inclement weather, they spent the night there and we have been vigilant, preserving the human rights of migrants, taking care of their integrity"said the director of Attention to Migrants of Veracruz, Carlos Escalante.

The group of migrants, which includes men, women and children, have been banned from boarding freight transports and migratory filters have been installed in passenger transports.

The National Human Rights Commission (CNDH) asked the Mexican government on Wednesday to attend to and respect the rights of the migrant caravan.

Veracruz is the third state they have stepped on since their departure on October 23 from the city of Tapachula, on the border with Guatemala and in the state of Chiapas, and their passage through Oaxaca.

The caravan advances as the region experiences a record migratory flow towards the United States, whose Office of Customs and Border Protection (CBP) "he found" More than 1.7 million illegal immigrants on the border with Mexico in fiscal year 2021, which ended on September 30.

This group was launched after the Mexican authorities frustrated the advance of four migrant caravans that left precisely from Tapachula in the first days of September.

Mexico has detected more than 190,000 undocumented immigrants from January to September, about triple the number in 2020, in addition to having deported almost 74,300 according to the Migration Policy Unit of the Ministry of the Interior.
