The men’s team will battle it out with the United States

In preparation for the third qualifying window for the upcoming FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023, the Dominican Republic national team will play a warm-up match against USA Basketball in June.

This was revealed by José P. Monegro, general manager of the senior men’s basketball team, during an interview on La Hora del Deporte, a program that airs on Sundays on CDN Deportes.

“The United States has required us to have a warm-up game against them on the Miami Heat court, with their first team,” Monegro said.

He then commented that later the Dominican Basketball Federation (Fedombal) will offer the official details about the match at the FTX Arena, the name that the Heat’s court bears today.

Listín Diario consulted the president of Fedombal, Rafael Uribe, about the commitment, and the federated added that the meeting will take place on June 28.

“That match will be preparation for the window. The next day we leave for Canada and they (USA) will go to Puerto Rico”, explained the federated.

The third window of Group C of the Americas Qualifier will be played from July 1-4.

In Canada, the Dominican Republic (3-1) will meet the hosts (4-0) at the First Ontario Center in Hamilton on July 1. The Dominicans will then travel to the Bahamas (1-3) to face the hosts at the Kendall Isaacs Gymnasium in Nassau on day four.

Both the Dominicans and the Canadians are already qualified for the second round of the World Cup qualifier. Virgin Islands (0-4) and Bahamas compete for the last place in the group to the next phase.
